    First ever produced Volkswagens

The top two pics, final pic, and the pic in the second row from the top, on the right, are of the first prototype Beetle and the first EVER produced VW. My grandfather was the test driver. In the top right pic, my dad is sitting on the hood. The one convertible is an experimental convertible concept(though I'm not positive on whether that one was the first of its type). The two black ones are later production models, made around the 1950s.

Here is a snibet from wikipedia...
Starting in 1931, Ferdinand Porsche and Zündapp developed the "Auto für Jedermann" (car for the everyman). This was the first time the name "Volkswagen" was used. Porsche already preferred the flat-4 cylinder engine, but Zündapp used a watercooled 5-cylinder radial engine. In 1932, three prototypes were running.[2] All of those cars were lost during the war, the last in a bombing raid over Stuttgart in 1945.

-One of those three cars that were destroyed was the one in the picture above

The only good thing to come out of Hitler was his idea for a 'peoples car'.....hence Volkswagen. Who would have thought 60 years later we would be loving something that was conceived by the worlds most evil man and from a country millons of people died trying to defeat.....
