    Staffs-VW Ltd

    That's right,

I have recently sorted it all out and registered the club name to stop anyone else setting up and trading under our name and using our reputation to aid their profits...

Using the Limited company will help a bit. But it's around £1200 a year to file accounts (even if they're zero'd). And it doesn't actually stop somebody using the name "Staffs VW" in their marketing.

You'd need to register the trademark with Intellectual Property Office - Trade marks

It's something I'm in the process of doing, and it cost me £270 but got refused so I'm going to pay near on 5,000 to get a company to do it for me properly for one website, and then I'm copying it myself for the rest lol. I've had a trademark before (and still own it - "Versatherm" - and that IS the only way to stop somebody using the name).

In the meantime, use TM next to everywhere your logo is, and that's classed as an unregistered trademark, something you can still fight with solicitors and argue it's your brand.

However with it saying VW in it, you'd have to say it's NOT automotive related (perhaps aim for discussion related categories when applying for the mark instead) else VW will refuse the mark during the 6 - 9 month period that gives firms a chance to refuse a mark if they think it infringes on their own mark.

This is something I know quite a bit about. Perhaps worth continuing this via PM or email if you want more info matey.

I've been on both ends of the stick when it comes to using trademarks. I've both fought companies to remove my mark from their websites/marketing. And also had companies make me remove their mark from my websites.

    Some info.

DMCA Website Protection & Takedown Services - DMCA.com - to protect content - you can shut down websites that steal your content with this.
Trade Mark Direct - Trade mark your brand for under £500 with free searches, unique money back guarantee and 98% success rate - cheap registrations that are done professionally (to save them getting refused after months of waiting like I've just had done to me lol) - Cheaper than the first firm that quoted me this is.
