Thread: Mk1 Jetta.......

  1. #1

    Mk1 Jetta.......

So you all saw the pictures of the Jetta I posted on the old forum but for those who didn't here it is:

I haven't really done anything to it at the moment just cleaned it but it started hammering it down while i was polishing so i didn't finish it

The plans for this week/next week are:

    Service
Take it to Dave @ BVR so he can tell me how bad the engine is
New poly bushes and clean up rear beam, wishbones etc etc.
New brakes (pads, discs, hoses etc)
    Coilovers
    Front and rear ARB
    Chrome mirrors
    New bumpers
See if the arches are any good under the trims. If not I'll get new trims
    New badges on the rear
    Chrome trim down the side
    Mk1 Golf GTi duckbill splitter
ATS Classics 13x7 or 8 not decided yet haha.

Credit card is going to take a beating this week then

It sounds like a big job but I thought since I'm doing the coilovers I might aswell do the bushes and since I'll be doing the bushes the rear beam will be off so might aswell do the brakes lines and so on. Hope fully I got the week of doing nothing so I may be able to do it all this week but that might be a bit ambitious lol.

Comments/advice welcome since I've never touched a Mk1 before haha

    Ollie

Yeah I was thinking that but I don't know anywhere decent where I can get the arches rolled. Do you think it will need it?

Gave it a service today and adjusted the idle and it's sweet now. Took the arches off the front aswell to see what they were like and there was not rot. Not even surface rust

Going to venom tomorrow to pick up some coilovers and some bonnet struts. Also might get the ARB from there or BBT. Will also be ordering my wheels

Very nice... Careful with the ats classics as they don't fit over some brake on the mk1...
Had to run spacers on the caddy

    Re: Mk1 Jetta.......

Cheers for the advice Jon. I didn't think it would be an issue I've seen plenty of Mk1s on 13s It's only a 1.5 so the brakes might be small enough but then again I was planning on upgrading the brakes a bit but I doubt I will put bigger discs on. The brakes are like sponges lol.

I might have to go for the 7j's then if I will need spacers. I think 8j and spacers will give me too much poke. Don't think the police would be happy lol

the rear drums might fit can you not get hold of a 13" rims just to do a trial fit over the brakes and work from there??

    Re: Mk1 Jetta.......

Well it's got 13s on it now but I'm not sure of the offset. The ATS might be a different offset making them closer to the calipers I'm not sure I'll do some googling and find out the offset of the steelies it's on
