Vw golf mk2 gti 8v project

Proud owner of this vw golf bought off eBay for £402 not a great start as it broke down on the way from derby in leek! So another £108 to tow it back luckily just seems to be a duff battery as I put a brand new one on and it fired up 1st time :-) will be giving it a full strip and respray

First step done a full strip, requires 2x new front wings because of rust so I purchased brand new from vw heritage for £40 each and resprayed black

Cheers Jon had the car about 2 months so things going along nicely hope to get the tailgate done this week I'll add photos as it progresses, I'm smoothing the tailgate and getting rid of the rear wiper as it seems to be a bit of a water trap

looking nice, a mate of mine did the same, bought a mk2 stripped it and rebuilt it with a carbon skin roof, resprayed it himself and put a vr6 engine in. still waiting to hear it kick up for the first time.

    keep up the good work!!

Got the tailgate in work quite simple to take off and pop the window out, smoothed over the wiper hole with fibre glass and filler and filled some small dents. Hopefully be able to sand most of it down tommorrow

Looks like a nice project, have you welded the arches or just cagged them up?

Look pretty rusted through on that pic above

That's why I would never buy a "restored" car in my life...............

That's your choice mate but having being a paint sprayer for the best part of 7 years proffesionally not DIY, I like to think I know what requires welding and what doesn't. On this occasion the arch didn't need welding if it did I wouldn't cut corners and it would of being done, but like I say it's your opinion
