    MK1 Caddy, GTD Conversion...

As we have a new site I thought I'd start a new thread.
Most of you know the car but for those that don't, here's my '91 Caddy.

I got fed up with the 1.6d and 4 speed gearbox being soooo slow. It was getting painful to drive it anywhere other than to the shops and back
So it been off the road for a month now as I've been swapping the engine over.
Before any of this started I cleaned up the "new" gear linkage and added all new bushes and also cleaned up the new engine with new oil, gaskets, cam belt, glow plugs...

Then the old engine came out

    Swapped all the gear linkages

    New rear engine mount

It remained like this for a couple of weeks as we were busy and the weather was [email protected]
Eventually the new engine went in

Then we connected it all up, turned the key and... nothing.
Swapped the started motor over and then... first time! black soot everywhere are there is no downpipe connected

I've been out sorting a couple of coolant leaks this weekend and also put the Revolution wheels back on, with some 10mm spacers on the back.

I've still got to get it timed properly, sort out a suitable downpipe, intercooler, align the gear linkage... and a few other things for the MOT

More pics to come over the next few weeks.

    Gary

    Thanks for the comments guys.

Jon. 70 mph is the stuff of dreams!
It's my MK1 Golf that is under the cover. It's going up for sale if anybody fancies a restoration project?

Coupe16V, thanks for the parts the other day

I'm struggling to find a space for the intercooler. I've trial fitted the standard one but there's no room. There's not enough room in front of the Rad to mount the other one i have either. I might need to get a slimmer one?

Anybody got a dial gauge I can borrow and the appropriate adaptor thingy so i can try to set up the pump?

I think normally the set the rad at an angle and slot it in at the side to overcome the limited space....
