Thread: DOF with 35mm and 56mm with the same field of view

DOF with 35mm and 56mm with the same field of view

I think about buying a FFL Lens and think about what will give me a smaller DOF with the same aperture and the same field of view.
    1. 35mm, F2, FOV=AxB, Distance=1m
To take a portrait picture of people I have to stay at a distance let us say 1m.

    2. 56mm, F2, FOV=AxB, Distance=1m+X
To take the same picture with the same field of view I have to go further afar. Don't know where but it is further afar as 1m.

1m is only an example. It should be the same with any distance.
I know when I'm close to the object the DOF is smaller. But this is only valid when I have the same focal length. So in this fact I change the focal length and the distance to the object to have the same field of view. What will give me a smaller DOF? The 35mm or the 56mm?

    Please help.
    Thanks!

I didn't find the right solution from the Internet.
