    Buying with 47k or 120K

    Hi peeps,

I need some advice my cousin is going to get another Dub, now he has seen a 2001 MK4 1.8 T with 47k on the clock with paperwork to back up for £2.5 k but he also been offered a 2001 Passat with 120k with full VW history for £750 and he says the passat is in good nick with MOT and tax, now the question .....

Which would you have, I'm a bit funny about and old ish car with really low miles thinking that stuff could go wrong !!

    Any advice welcome, cheers

    Nige

I love low miles.... but then I put plenty on them before selling.... if the Passat has full history and servicing then its been looked after and for the price its a bargain...

i am not bothered by milage aslong as there is history to back it up, i think the passatt is the better buy but depends if he wants a car that big,

long as cambelt has been done on the mk4 then i would go for that seems a good buy, i had a silver 3 door one with around 60k for 1999 and never had a problem with that and only sold that for around 2500 with mods

My experience of older cars with high mileage is that as long as its been looked after properly is not an issue.

As with the others, a well looked after average/ high miler is probably the way to go. My mk2 has had its fair share of issues, bought it aged 20 with just over 70,000 miles on it. Alt, starter, battery, perished hoses, gunked spark plugs, starting difficulties- cars a made to be used not tucked away gathering dust.
. Low mileage doesn't always mean the perfect car, look how many leggy Passats and A4s wander around Autotrader!
