Thread: Weber carb or give in a buy a sensible car? Help!

  1. #1

Weber carb or give in a buy a sensible car? Help!

Bit unsure what to do, my mk2 1.8 driver with pierburg carb is terrible on fuel and is the high tax bracket, but cheap insurance and i love it. Do i spend 300-400 getting a nice weber conversion or just buy a newer vag car possibly mk5 polo, 1.4 mk4, im a broke ass student so pennys count at the min and 20mpg is not cool

    any help or advice appreciated

A weber will transform it, I did this to my old driver years ago. I'd also be tempted to fit a GTI camshaft too.

could you afford the cost of the fuel after fitting a thirsty webber? just something to think about...

This is it Jon, really not arsed about performance, especially after driving rusty around at 55 everywhere! the £220 tax is a killer also, double my insurance infact. Plus im getting old, a more modern car is quite appealing, got about £1500 to spend, 6n2 polos get poor reviews but i do fancy a canyon red one, lupos are overpriced and apart from that im unsure.

the 6n2's are very popular considering the poor reviews.. and a few people on here have one... for £1500 you should pick up something good with a little ££ left over

A weber would be way better on fuel than a pierburg carb. Not on about some huge weber carb, a direct replacement weber unit - they used to be available through VW.

I'm with Dave on that. The Peirburg carb is a sack of crap to put it mildly lol. A direct replacement Weber would save a few quid on fuel. Tax is a bit of a ball ache, I have the same issue but thankfully I earn a good wage so while it's painful I figure I save a wedge on servicing and parts over a 'modern' VW

Buying a Weber from a VW dealer is not a good idea. Try and Google Weber Carbs Direct. Thet're not to swift with Japanese or American cars, but they do know VW's.

weber will make a world of difference to the fuel problem, and also make it slightly swifter, most peopple think of big carbs when you mention weber but they do do standard replacements
