Thread: Time for it to go

  1. #1

    Time for it to go

Just recently things have started to go wrong wth the GTi. Tend to get something repaired and within a few the next thing comes along.

Now ive got an annoying rattle from the boot/tailgate area which is only there over rough roads or does it when i turn the car off.

    A terribly creaky drivers seat

And an intermittent fault on the seatbelt light which only happens now and then, mostly over bumps or going round bends.

Anyway its all starting to annoy me so come spring/summer im gonna get rid

    Any ideas of value

Seat will need a little silcone spray to sort it out
seatbelt light is no doubt one of the connectors working loose... just plug it back in
rattle will be either the balls on the cords off the parcel shelf that most mk5 owners moan about or something inside the tailgate... maybe even something in the wheel well..

personally all simple things to fix... plus on a 7 year old car I'd expect little things like that...

price wise 05 plates are up for £7000 - £8000 depending on spec from garages... private sales might go for a little less

Its not the balls on the shelf as ive taken them out, sounds like the tailgate chatters or something unless its the back box

i agree simple but niggly things that need doing

for the tailgate just wind out the rubber bump stops.... exhaust - give it a shake when cold and off and see if it gives off any noise... if not then you know its not that...

Doesnt seem to be exhaust more tailgate, think it needs a touch of BVR

Blimey and thats on a mk5!

Know what its like going from one problem to another - question is when you get something new will you just be swapping for a different set of problems?

    Always a gamble!

same goes for when you buy new also... its just luck of the draw

Ok well seatbelt stalk has been replaced to cure the light problem, seat creaking is the seat frame itself (priced at £200 just for the part) so thats not being done

and the rattle in the back is the rear seats but nobody seems to know how to cure it

if they rattle where they connect on the metal striking plate then wrap some insulating tape around the metal part and this will help.
