    6n- Fact me

Folks i'm currently lining up a 6n Polo to a) replace my shat-factory Pug, primarily as a spare incase the Golf gets the hump one day and b) as the first car for the eldest when she turns seventeen.
Looking at 8v 1.4s and turning up plenty of tidy ones with average/ below mileage. Have seen a couple with recon boxes in so figuring that could be an achilles as well as rot in the arches. Other than that there seem to be some mega-milers around, are there any other specific faults to keep watch for?

    Any help much appreciated

Yeah the 1.4 8v are know for gear boxes mate I had a 1.9d cl was very slow but good on fuel came with electric windows and mirrors full adjusting seats was a very tidy motor untill the gear box died after 125000 miles. Only thing apart from that was a clutch it didnt have a cam belt change till 105000 miles and it was a bit noisy. I would say you could get a 16v 100bhp for decent money now and they ain't a bad car or try looking for a 6n2 gti they are nice and you dont see many about!!!

    Re: 6n- Fact me

Ive just picked one up for my misses, good cars that are basicly the same as a mk3 golf.

As you've mensioned the gearboxes are made of chocolate so make sure it has a good one lol.

Edit: Don't get a 16v, the gearboxes in them are even worse.

Cheers gents will keep my eyes peeled. Have done some maths on the subject and insurance wise in the long term the 8v seems the best bet. Bit gutted I can't convince the eldest an 80s breadvan (or even coupe) would be a good idea but never mind! Found a proper mint 88 breadvan with 31k on the clock and full MOT.

Mate if i did that i'd be shot at dawn in the back garden. Looked at a decent one today but also clocked an N reg Skoda Felicia with 41k on the clock, full MOT and six months tax. Very cheap and very tempting! Would still like to keep it VW but will have to see. The Skoda is a chuffin bargain

Too bloody right, keep looking at it and the only thing holding me back is the lack of power-steering. Won't bother me but not sure how a feeble teen would get on. Would look absolutely 'mazin on some decent alloys (or even G60 steels) and on the deck drop

Bored of con merchants and dreamers on the 6n trail, took a different tack...

Now the proud owner of a Mk2 Boulevard Coupe Polo. A little rough around the edges but no rust, no rot and the 1043cc engine is as sweet as a nut. Chuffed that it came in under budget and insurers are close to paying me to take a policy out on it.
