I was outside the garage working on sparks3 golf, when she came asking for help

I sure it's just a case of draining all the diesel out maybe a flush too and putting a new filter in

Message BVR, Dave will know what do to

Hope you get this sorted, your missus was genuinely devastated about what had happened.

Re: Petrol in a diesel Engine Issue

If it's a PD it won't be a problem. Common rail pumps don't like petrol but if it's only for a short distance shouldn't be an issue.
I filled the tank on my car with petrol and drove it about 0.5 a mile before it stopped with lots of white smoke out the back. Instantly knew what I had done, don't know why I did it as the wife has a diesel two. I even remember looking at the pump when I was filling it and thought it was a good price per litre.Put it down to old age.
Anyway recovered home by AA, drained tank giving half to neighbours with petrol cars as I didn't have enough cans to put it in. Took fuel filter off and emptied it out. Put 10L in the tank and it started after about a minute of cranking.
    Not had any issues since.

Re: Petrol in a diesel Engine Issue

If you put petrol in a diesel engine you should not attempt to turn on the ignition or even start the engine. This can circulate the contaminated fuel and bring about a risk of damage to parts. You should drain the tank and refill with diesel.
