My Polo Needs Attention, and i dont know where to start!

When i bought the car of mart, i was made aware of an issue.
its got a slight misfire to it on tick over, and when its warm it misses at the bottom half of the rev range.

    so far, mart said its had;

    plugs
    leads
    coil
    distributor cap and rotor arm
    throttle body
    4 injectors
    fuel filter

then ive had a quick squint.
some one suggested servo hose but it looks fine, its on plastic fittings and i darent take it off to blow it out incase i break either the servo end or the inlet manfifold end.
someone else suggested knock sensor, when plugged into an a snap-on ethos computer the knock sensor was a registered DTC. ive since cleared the fault, drove it round the block and then plugged it back in a knock sensor was there again, so changed the knock sensor and reset it again. now when i plug it in it says fault with knock sensor wiring. ive had a quick look round it, peeled the tape off and the covers etc, everything looks good.

my next port of call is lambda sensor, but before i part with £30, does anyone else have a 4wire lambda for a 6n polo i could try? OR does anyone else have any idea's what it could be? im only an level 3 apprentice so im not the most experianced mechanic!

any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks!

The issue could be caused by the hole in the middle of your polo

i would suggest getting a compression test done.. sounds as if you may have a burnt exhaust valve
or could be a air leak,
faulty new part which as been fitted,
blocked fuel filter ,air filter, or dodgy wiring plug to knock sensor

Compression test was done by BVR when mart had it, came back very good.

Knock sensor is an odd one, you would think that if it's not working then the engine would just be able to knock without the ECU knowing about it? Not sure why it would cause a misfire. Lambda sensor, usually when they go it just over fuels like mad and stinks of fuel from the exhaust. Can sometimes cause it to idle high as well, all of which it doesn't do. Another one that would be very odd to cause a miss fire.

The only thing I thought of was an intermittent sticking valve, stabbing in the dark though. Best of luck mate, this one had us totally stumped...

Its had a fuel filter and a lambda and it still misses, im wondering if it has something to do with oil. In my old 1.0L 6n Polo, it used to burn oil, it was better to the gallon on petrol then it was on oil. When i ran it low on oil, it gained a missfire, ran on like 3/4 cylinders. and when you topped it up it would take 5 mins idling then clear up and run on all 4 again. However, i cant see how an oil problem would cause the car to drop a cylinder when at running tempreture, but not when its cold. when its cold the car runs mint, but when its warm it ticks and its missing. its getting on my tits man! im gunna whip a flush in it on the way work tommoro, then drop my oil and change the filter ect, because its cheap and im running out of ideas.

Might be worth letting someone look at it for you with the experience? BVR?

Good place to start is with a cylinder leakage test.
If the hammer don't fix it you've got an electrical problem.
