    20VT conversions, talk to me...

Can't help but think the Passat needs some more poke, keep having dirty thoughts about 20VT power.

Really I suppose I should be going diesel but most donor engines are high mileage snotters and the PD puts me off because of the cost and complexity. That leaves the old VR but it's a thirsty old beast and the 20vt which I see as relatively straightforward to swap.

The problem is the range of engines available!

Anyone point me in the direction of a decent guide so I don't have to trawl pages of bullsh*t.

Any advice on costs, mpg etc would be interesting...

    Cheers

My 20vt conversion on my mk2 cost 3k but 1k went to qpeng for the loom ecu etc but it was doing it myself.

Should be less on the passat as you already have a hydraulic clutch and cable change box. All depends on what type of power you want. AGU with cable change throttle would be the easyest option and give around 200bhp where as a AUM AUQ fly by wire will be more work but be around 230bhp. Both would need a 16v GTI mk3 box and uprated clutch with g60/mk3 GTI flywheel but you may get away with the standard box on the AGU for a while.

MPG would be around the same as you get now. MK2 did 30-40+mpg as did my octy with the same engine.

I'm wiring one into my track car at the moment, its basically a case of splicing the 20vt loom into your loom. It fairly straight forward even for me but I'm still unsure of a couple of conections.

I will know how its gone after I turn the key.......
