    Suddenly Poorly Mk2

    Well

After servicing the Mk2 last weekend its spent a week commuting like a dream. More responsive, smoother and stronger than its been for a little while. Was pretty chuffed until...
Last night jumped into it to run a quick errand, dash lights came on, wouldn't start. No turn over, nothing. Tried again, no turn over and dash went blank. No lights, leccy windows wouldn't work, radio wouldn't turn on. Jumped it off the B6 and eventually it fired up for a few seconds then dead again, no electic at all. Voltmeter showing 12.7v in the battery. Power going into the starter motor as well and not had any signs it was playing up.
Eventually worked way into the fusebox to find that resistors and fuses had traces of water in them. After pulling them out, drying them off everything seems normal again. Did see some spots of water just inside the driver's door beneath the dash. Problem I have is, where the hell is the water coming from?
Everying dry under the dash, windscreen seal intact and dry inside where dash meets bulkhead, bonnet pull cable seal seems intact, no splits in the bulkhead and seals on the door, seal around window/ speaker loom intact (and too low down)... Anyone else had a similar problem?

The sealant under the ecu can fail and it leaks down the seam. Had that on a couple of my mk2's. Remove the ecu and have a look see if anything has cracked.

Cheers Paul will have a look tomorrow, going to check the sunroof runoff channels too but from your experience will try your suggestion first

Hmm curiouser and curiouser. Runoff channels clear, plate under where the ECU would be is solid. Smeared a bit of grease around bonnet pull seal and wiper motor seals, other than this i'm stumped!

If you have a factory installed radio antenna anywhere near the fuse box, check it out for the leak that is eluding you.

Despite the solid appearance decided to get some silicon sealant around the ECU plate and hey-presto, no more tears. Or drips. Fuse board cleaned out of corrosion and after a hissy fit last week all is working as it should again. Huzzah!
