EUís MoT war on our cars

EUROCRATS want to ban Brits from pimping up their cars with bigger alloys, better brakes ó or any modification at all.
A crackpot plot revealed yesterday will see motors fail the MoT unless they are exactly the same as when they left the factory.

Outraged hobbyists branded it a threat to thousands of jobs. And classic car fans whose vehicles rarely sport all their original parts, fear they will be forced off the road.

The Department for Transport has already asked 240 individuals and organisations for feedback on the plan. The Association of Car Enthusiasts warned of ďmassive implicationsĒ.

Spokesman Barry Cornes said: ďLots of older cars underwent modifications like brake lights and wipers to make them safer. They would be illegal.Ē

The Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs said it was ďunacceptableĒ. More than 28,000 work in the UKís historic car industry. The DfT said it would ďseek to minimiseĒ the impact.

ive read this today i dont see how they can inforce this, for many modified car owners there cars are a extention of them selves, and to ban mods on cars would be against self expresion also police cars aint exactly standard are they so will the be banned as well after all i cant get car with florecent lights etc from the factory.

Yeah, but I know Belgium have very strict laws about modifying cars... but I cannot see it coming into play here... Although MOT's are changing all the time and making it harder to modify....

Read this a few weeks ago, i'm not so certain this will be avoiding our shores. 'Call me Dave' still hasn't delivered his promised referendum on the Neo Nazi institution that is the EU and there is a constant war on the car. If it didn't make certain people money it would have been outlawed years ago. In all fairness the government will do whatever because despite all the moaning and outrage we're too self interested to do anything about it.

Typical EU Rhetoric that is just unenforceable. MOT stations wouldnt have the time or resources to implement it.

Think the goverment will play the 'Opt out' card myself ;0)

Can't see it happening any time soon to be honest and to risk thousands of jobs would hurt the governments credibility with people

To those who would pooh-pooh Europe and the chaos it brings, think why two successive governments have promised a referendum on the subject but neither have.
Its not here for our own good and it has the ability to ruin the lives of many. Those of you who own older VWs not tax exempt look at your VED slips when they come through. If pricing us off the roads isn't working then legislation will be the route they'll take.
