    Rotten Sill help

    Hi guys,

Just getting some new rubber fitted to the golf and the chap at the garage spotted that my drivers side sill is rotten to the point where there aint much steel left in it. Are these hard/expensive to sort out? Will post up some pics when I get a sec

yup mk4 golf, 5 door. MOT was last august so not as bad, but yeah fair point.

any suggestions on how to fix and if i need to buy parts or is it simply a case of getting some welding done?

    Re: Rotten Sill help

I would buy a replacement sill from VW and have it fitted,

Anything else is just a bodge.....

    Is it all rotten?
you can just cut out what's needed and replace with new steel, ot fit a complete sill
clean all the paint and grot of with a knotted wire wheel in a angle grinder and go from there

    Re: Rotten Sill help

would prefer to repair if i can, the car is 12 years old so dont want it to cost a fortune in parts and paint. will pop round to my local garage to get it looked at and see how much for a weld job.

    Re: Rotten Sill help

I wouldn't think iy would cost that much, the main thing is to make sure all the rot is cut else it well be back in a couple of years

if you get it repaired might be worth having the under side waxoyled now you can get a tin of the stuff for a couple of quid and its worth it in the long run
