    Should I avoid?

So I won a 1200 beetle on eBay last week for 2.8k.
Hadn't went to see it but it seemed like a decent price. The paint and body looked really good. And the underside was supposedly mint with no welding ever being carried out.
Anyway a couple of days after the auction I had a message saying that the engine had seized during its mot (he had previously told me it passed its mot a few days before that?)
Anyway it's supposed to be in a friends garage under inspection atm, but something doesn't seem to be sitting right.
He said he would give me first refusal upon fixing the problem.

    Thoughts?

Also I might have found another one, its slighty more expensive and the paint is a bit rough.
But it's a 1.6, has disk brakes and air ride on the front. It also had a body off chassis go over 3 years ago.
This seems like a maybe the one to go for as I plan on using it for a daily

Speaking to someone, i've been told that the 1.2 beetles are super slow, is this the case?

never had one so I couldn't comment, but a 1200cc engine from that era would have around 50bhp if it's lucky... slow would be an understatement

Think I'll try and get a 1600 then.
The other one I mentioned had a fair bit of surface rust that I dont fancy paying for straight away so will probably leave it.
    Cheers
